Have you ever wondered what Valentine’s Day activities you can do with your family? Aside from buying boxes of valentines for your children to give out at school, here are some simple and easy Valentine’s Day activities for your family to enjoy all February long!
February – the season of love. The store aisles turn pink and red while chocolate and teddy bears jump off every display. If you’ve thought ahead you probably already have a box of valentines for your child to take to school. If not, you should probably get on that!
While we celebrate the love of friends or the special people in our lives, Valentine’s season can be a great opportunity to teach our children about God’s love. Talk about what God has done for us through the cross, share the gospel with your children, read Romans 5:6-11 and talk about what it means.
As Christians and Christian families, we are called to love others beyond our family walls. It’s easy to show our family and friends we love them; we probably don’t need too many ideas on how to do that. But loving people we don’t know, well, that can be h-a-r-d!
When Jesus gave his disciples what we refer to as the great commission, he told them to go to 4 places: Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. When we love others we can break it down into four similar areas:
Jerusalem = our family
Judea = our friends and neighbors.
Samaria = strangers we’ve never actually met.
And of course, the ends of the earth = the ends of the earth. You won’t find going on a family missions trip on this list, but if your children are old enough and that’s something you can and want to do, talk about it and start saving up!
