It’s time again to head back to school. Whatever your schooling choice is this year, add scripture to your children’s day with back to school memory verses.
Why Should You Memorize Scripture With Your Kids?
Scripture memory is a spiritual discipline
Spiritual disciplines are habits that we form to help us grow in our faith, become closer to God, and serve Him. Scripture memory helps us to “Hide God’s word in our hearts…” (Psalm 119:11) and learn God’s voice (John 10:27).
Scripture memory helps your children access the bible regularly
When we memorize verses or passages from scripture, it gives us access to scripture regardless of where we are. Bible memory was a large part of Sunday School classes when I was growing u and in college. I am so thankful for the verses that the Holy Spirit often reminds me of exactly when I need it. Through Scripture memory, I have godly encouragement available at all times! And I love that I can access scripture memory whenever or wherever my kids ask questions.
Helping your children memorize scripture will allow them to be reminded of God’s word wherever they are. God can use memorized scripture to encourage and build them up regardless of location.
Back to School Memory Verses:
Joshua 1:9
Use this vers to help build confidence in your kids as they begin a new school year. We don’t have to be afraid of new things, new places, or new people because God is with us wherever we go. God is with our children at church, at school, the doctor’s office – wherever they go!
Philippians 4:13
Teach your kids about contentment with Philippians 4:13. In the context of Philippians 4, Paul is writing about how he has learned the secret to being content in all circumstances. When our kids don’t make the sports team – God can give them the power to be content. When they are struggling in math – God can help them. No matter what our circumstances are, we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength!
James 1:5
God gives us wisdom when we ask! Have you ever been in a situation where you don’t know what to do? Our kids come in contact with many potential opportunities to seek God’s wisdom every day. A friend at school may be bullied. They may see someone hurting and not know what to do. Maybe they are struggling with a schoolwork assignment. This back-to-school memory verse is a great place to start teaching your kids to turn to God when they need wisdom.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Worship – It’s not just singing songs in church, it’s anything we do for the glory of God. Remind your kids that even schoolwork can be worship when we do it for the glory of God. How do we do schoolwork for the glory of God? We do it like we’re doing it for Him. We do our best and we pray for His help in our schoolwork.
Proverbs 13:20
This is the last of our back to school memory verses. This verse is a great place to start teaching your kids that their friends matter. Who our kids choose to spend time with will shape who they are. This proverb encourages us to walk with the wise – to choose healthy, wise, and godly friends.
